The plant grows on tree trunk. The plant is an epiphyte and most common in the forest of northeast India.

Cultural significance

 

Onset of spring brings flower to this orchid. It is one of the most popular and culturally celebrated flowering plant in Assam. The extremely beautiful inflorescence gives the name foxtail orchid. Locally it is known as ‘Kapou phul’ ( কপৌ ফুল ) in Assam. The flower is the symbol of love and integrity and is an integral part of ‘Bihu’ attire.
