The Global Biodiversity Framework is a strategy to deal with the biodiversity loss worldwide. Its main goal is to counter the biodiversity loss by restoring ecosystems. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is a comprehensive plan adopted by Parties during the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD) in December 2022.
Goals and Targets
Deal 30X30: Restoration of 30% of degraded ecosystems through conserving 30% of land, freshwater, and marine areas by globally by 2030.
Protection of Species: Prevention of extinction of known species by reducing the rate of extinction risk tenfold by 2050.
Reduction of Pollution: Reduction of risk caused due to use of pesticides and lose of nutrients for the environment by at least 50% by 2030.
Sustainable Practices: Conservation of land by management of Sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry, and increase biodiversity-friendly practices.
Climate Action: Implementing nature-based solution to the issues related to climate change.
Urban Greening: Conservation of biodiversity through Greening up urban spaces
Financial Commitments:
Funding: 200 billion USD is aimed to channelize conservation initiatives from public and private sources.
Corporate Reporting: Reporting how operations of companies and financial institutions affect and are affected by biodiversity issues.
