The owl fly looks similar to dragon fly. However, they are distinguished from dragon fly by presence of antenna longer than dragon fly. It belongs to the family Ascalaphidae. Both larvae and adults are predators. Adults are usually active during dusk and capture other insects during flight. Adults are found attaching to the twigs or branches of the tree in daytime. Larvae live in soil covered with leaves and capture other insects on the ground.
